Audrie will discuss your requirements and arrange a booking. To confirm your booking you will be sent a contract with details of your workshop and terms and conditions. Once you have read and agreed, please sign and return with payment. A system is set in place to protect both you and your workshop facilitator in the event of a cancelation; you will find this information in the terms and conditions sent to you.

Inspire your children with storytelling and drama

Step inside the magical Telltale Tent, find a cushion and listen to a wonderful story then bring the story to life by dressing –up, moving to music and acting out the characters and their world through drama and play.  Discover a storytelling innovation to build confidence and self –esteem, improve communication skills, inspire interest in language and literacy and ignite the imagination.

Telltale Tent is facilitated by Audrie Woodhouse MA who is a Professional Actress and experienced Drama Teacher with more than ten years of experience in coaching children.  During her career she has concentrated on the art of storytelling using text, spoken word and gesture. She draws upon a variety of disciplines from dance, song and drama incorporating methods from across the globe such as, Mudra –Indian hand gesture and Mask Theatre to ignite her stories.

Schools, colleges and theatre companies have specifically requested that Audrie run workshops, including the RSC. As well as private group sessions Telltale Tent is running in after school clubs and in line with the national literacy strategy can offer support to specific literature covered by the school curriculum in lessons. The magical Telltale Tent offers a tailor made experience for children’s parties adapting to themes, such as pirates, mermaids, princesses and dragons.

Does your child have a favourite story?

Telltale Tent can deliver this story with props, puppets and participation and exhilarate the children with games, music, songs, pass the parcel, bubbles and costumes to bring your party to life. We provide music for the whole party and will arrive in plenty of time to set up before the party starts. Each session includes an hour of facilitation which can be split in two if preferred. Children are welcome to play in the Tent throughout the party with guidance and supervision from parents or carers. Your facilitator will be on hand at all times.

 Family gatherings  - Weddings, Christenings/Baptisms , Anniversaries and Beyond!

A day for all the family to remember with stories, games, songs, bubbles and costumes. Audrie began her career as a professional dancer and has a diploma in musical theatre from LSMT at The Old Vic as well as years of acting experience and training.  She runs a number of sessions locally for children who have a general interest in the arts. They are fun, energetic and engaging with a commitment to quality and integrity both from the teacher and the students. Whether it is just a hobby or dream, all students are encouraged to learn theatre skills and implement them to high standard. Group performance lessons are invaluable for encouraging, communication, confidence, creativity, initiative, independence and collaboration amongst so many other benefits.

 The classes for Physical Theatre and the Character Mask have been fascinating so far – I think the only negative thing I can say is that I’m sad that there is only one week left working with these incredible masks. Having said that I’m lucky enough to be booked onto all the courses and I can’t wait to see what else is in store!

Telltale Tent

This is our second term now coming to telltale tent and me and my 2 year old son really love it. Audrie is fantastic with the children and there is a really good mix of stories, dressing up and role play. The bubbles at the beginning and end of the session are a definite winner too! JANE

I bring my 3 year old son who loves it. He reall y has come out of his shell since coming. I have 2 older boys who struggle at school with their imagination and I feel coming to telltale tent will help Byron a lot when he’s older. JOANNE

For all budding actors/actresses there are very few opportunities like this one. Audrie Woodhouse has been offering a selection of Workshops over the past few months to great acclaim. Audrie has been described as an “inspiring performer” and “painstakingly honest”.

We met up with Audrie to discuss her City Drama Labs, what lead her into acting and how you can get involved.

Audrie Woodhouse - City Drama Lab

Can you tell us a little bit about your background?

I am from a village outside York and trained at a local performing arts school from the age of  4. Performance has stuck with me. I got my first professional job at 16 and thought this is the life for me.

What Tips would you offer people to get into acting?
Actors must be skilled, there is no magical illusion. Even the most talented actors must learn their craft in order to be a success. Be brave and prepared to dig deeper than you ever thought you would have to.

How did you get into physical Theatre?

Whilst working I kept  training and at Middlesex University I met John Wright who taught me all about Mask , Clown and Physical theatre. He directed me in a few plays and the genre became my niche. As well as working for various theatre companies and in film and television I became a member of Trestle Theatre Company and have been with them as a performer and teacher for over ten years.

In your field, who are you icons?
I would say John Wright is my Icon, I think because I know his work so well but also because he is a risk taker. Theatre is not always safe or at least it shouldn’t be, it should challenge and effect people. He is the most inspiring teacher I have ever met and as a teacher I know what a gift that is.

How did Woodhouse Theatre Connections come about?

Woodhouse Theatre Connections came about because I have connections with so many different walks of  life through my work in the Performing Arts and  I still want to make  more connections. WTC offers specialised workshops for schools, colleges and Universities, Telltale Tent for children and families as well as coaching for prestigious companies such as The Royal Shakespeare Co. I am proud to have been their Mask Consultant on a number of projects. I am working on connecting a group of theatre professionals for my next production. Very excting

Tell us a bit about your workshops?

The Workshops at CityDramaLab are to teach and nurture the talented actors in and around York. There are so many really good actors but they don’t often get the chance to hone their skills in a lab environment. Test themselves, experiment and evolve as actors without the pressures of having to impress in the rehearsal room or on stage. Actors are able to network and share ideas and leave knowing more than they did when they arrived. This is professional, practical actor training that will support them in future projects.

How do you get people to relax so you can get the most out of them performance wise?

For me acting is about playing and I like to remind actors of this. Just play, stay loose and enjoy! Also, be in the moment , really be there and everyone will be there with you and on your side. Easier said than done but what is the point in being in such a hard profession if you can’t  live and enjoy every moment of it.
